This 4th of July, the Williamsport Bureau of Police would like everyone to be safe and considerate of their neighbors when using fireworks. While certain fireworks are now legal in Pennsylvania, it is important for everyone to understand what the law permits and what it does not permit. The City of Williamsport recognizes Act 43 of 2017 House Bill No. 542 governing the sale, purchase and use of "Consumer Fireworks" (Class C.) All persons who use "Consumer Fireworks" shall follow all rules and regulations outlined in Section 2404 Use of Consumer Fireworks as well as the following conditions:
The City Ordinance further states that these fireworks shall be approved for use starting the weekend before July 4 and be permitted for use through the following calendar weekend. For purposes of this provision the weekend starts on Friday and then would conclude the following Sunday. Times for approved consumer fireworks shall be 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.
Any violation of these provisions could be subject to a fine of up to $600 and/or imprisonment of up to 90 days.

The Williamsport Bureau of Police would again like to remind everyone to have a safe holiday. If you plan to use any approved fireworks, please be mindful of your surroundings and respectful to your fellow community members.
