      License to Carry Firearms

      FIREARMS DIVISION

The Lycoming County Sheriff's Office is responsible for processing all applications for a Pennsylvania  License to Carry Firearms.  This license allows a person to carry a firearm concealed on their person or in a motor vehicle.  The license is issued to a person who qualifies, based on a background investigation conducted by the Firearm License Unit.  The license is valid for a period of 5 years.  The license may by revoked at anytime for reasons of misuse or criminal activity.

Applications for a Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms may be obtained online by clicking here  or by coming into the Sheriff's Office on the 3rd floor of the Lycoming County Courthouse during our normal business hours of 8:30 am until 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, excluding holidays.

If approved, this license does not authorize/exempt anyone to carry a firearm for employment purposes.  There are exceptions as listed under Title 18 Section 6106 of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code - (Firearms not to be carried without a license).  You will be in violation of the law if you carry a firearm for employment purposes unless you are properly certified under Act 235 - Leathal Weapons Training Act.  This certification and information can be obtained directly from the Pennsylvania State Police.

The Firearm License Unit also issues licenses for firearms dealers and precious metals dealers in Lycoming County.  These applications may be obtained by coming in to the Lycoming County Sheriff's Office.
Currently the states of Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming have reciprocity (will honor) the Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms.

Check the PA Attorney General Web Site for updates and to read the reciprocity agreement.

All applicants are reminded that furnishing false information to law enforcement is a violation of Section 4904 of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code - Title 18 (Unsworn Falsification to Authorities).  Any violation shall be dealt with according to law and prosecuted by this office.
